How to encode or decode text
Choose Encode or Decode, pick a format and paste your text. If the input looks like Base64, URL encoding, entities, escapes, hex or binary, a bar offers to decode it in one click. Swap moves the result back to the input to reverse the operation.
Formats
- Base64 works on the UTF-8 bytes of your text, so accents and emoji survive. Decoding accepts both the standard and URL-safe alphabets, with or without padding.
- URL: Component encodes everything except letters, digits and
-_.!~*'(), for query values; Full URL leaves:/?&=#alone. - HTML entities escapes
& < > " '; decoding understands named, decimal and hex entities. - Unicode escapes writes
éor\u{1F600}; decoding also reads\x41and\n. - Hex and binary show the UTF-8 bytes; ROT13 rotates letters by 13 places.
Invalid input, such as a stray character in Base64 or a broken % sequence, produces an error that says what is wrong and where.
FAQ
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding that anyone can reverse. Don't use it to hide secrets.
