How to find and replace

Paste your text, type what to find and what to put instead. Matches are highlighted in the text, the counter shows how many there are, and the result updates as you type. Leave “Replace with” empty to delete the matches.

Plain text or regular expression

In plain mode every character is literal, including . and $. Tick Regular expression to use JavaScript regex syntax. In the replacement, $1 inserts the first capture group, $<name> a named group, $& the whole match and $$ a dollar sign.

  • Match case turns off the i flag; Replace all is the g flag.
  • m makes ^ and $ match at every line, s lets . match line breaks, and u enables Unicode features such as \p{L}.
  • Whole words only matches when the text is not part of a longer word, including words with accents.

FAQ

What if my regular expression is invalid or too slow?

An invalid pattern shows the browser's error message instead of a result. Searching runs in a background thread, and a pattern that takes longer than two seconds, such as (a+)+ on a long line, is stopped so the page never freezes.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
