How to compare two texts
Paste the original into A and the new version into B, or open a file into either side. The comparison updates as you type. Swap exchanges the two sides.
Modes and options
- Line compares whole lines, like a code review. Lines that changed are paired up and the changed words inside them are highlighted. Line numbers refer to each side.
- Word is best for prose: it shows which words were added or removed in running text.
- Character finds the smallest edits, such as a changed digit or a typo.
- Side by side puts the versions next to each other; Inline interleaves them in one column, which is easier to read on a phone.
- Ignore whitespace hides changes that only add or remove spaces; Ignore case treats upper- and lower-case letters as equal.
Windows and Unix line endings are treated as the same, so a file saved on another system does not show every line as changed.
FAQ
Is there a size limit?
Line mode handles long documents quickly. Word and character modes do more work, so very large, very different texts may hit the time limit; you will see a message suggesting line mode.
Are my texts uploaded for comparison?
No. The diff is computed in a background thread in your browser.
