How to sort lines
Paste one item per line, choose an order and copy the result. Windows (CRLF) line endings are preserved.
- Alphabetical
- Dictionary order using Unicode collation, so éclair sorts next to eagle rather than after z.
- Natural
- Numbers inside text are compared by value: file1, file2, file10 instead of file1, file10, file2.
- Numeric
- Sorts by the first number on each line, including negatives, decimals and thousands separators. Lines without a number go last.
- By length, code point, reverse, shuffle
- Shortest line first; strict character-code (ASCII) order; flip the current order; or a random order. “Shuffle again” deals a new one.
Ignore case treats Apple and apple as equal; lines that compare equal keep their original order. Trim, Remove empty lines and Remove duplicates run before sorting.
FAQ
How do I sort lines in reverse alphabetical order?
Choose Alphabetical and tick Descending. To flip a list without sorting it, choose Reverse current order.
Can I sort a very long list?
Yes. Hundreds of thousands of lines sort in well under a second, and nothing leaves your browser.
